About this training
What is Fire Marshal Training?
Fire Marshal Training (also known as Fire Warden Training) equips designated employees with the authority and knowledge to manage fire risks in the workplace.

A certified fire marshal acts as the bridge between your staff and the emergency services. Training is up to date for 2026 and focuses on three core areas:
Prevention
Identifying potential fire hazards and ensuring daily fire safety compliance.
Evacuation
Leading safe, orderly exits and conducting accurate roll calls at assembly points.
Action
Liaising with emergency services and using fire extinguishers to tackle small fires.
Our training provides a 360-degree view of fire safety. By the end of this course, your designated Fire Marshals/Wardens will be proficient in:
| π₯ | Fire Science & Chemistry: Understanding the "Fire Triangle" and how to effectively break the chain of combustion. |
| βοΈ | UK Fire Legislation: Navigating the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and understanding legal liabilities. |
| β οΈ | Hazard Management: Proactive steps to identify and eradicate fire risks, including hazardous materials and faulty electricals. |
| π | Safety Equipment & Signage: Identifying different fire signs, understanding detection systems (smoke/heat), and testing fire alarms. |
| πͺ | Evacuation Strategy: Mastering safe escape routes, identifying assembly points, and managing human behaviour during an emergency. |
| π§― | Fire Extinguisher Proficiency: Learning which extinguisher to use (Water, Foam, CO2, Powder) for different classes of fire and how to operate fire blankets. |
| π§ | Equipment Maintenance: Oversight of the placement, accessibility, and maintenance schedules for all on-site fire safety equipment. |
| π· | The Marshal's Role: A deep dive into daily responsibilities, from proactive floor checks to liaison duties with emergency services. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Feel free to contact us or give us a call if you have any further questions.
In most modern workplaces, the terms fire marshal and fire warden are used interchangeably. Both roles involve overseeing fire prevention (checking extinguishers, fire doors, and alarms) and leading safe evacuations during an emergency. Some larger organizations may distinguish the roles by assigning "wardens" to specific zones and "marshals" to oversee the entire evacuation.
If necessary, we can adjust the course to meet these role requirements and adjust your certificate to reflect either "Marshal" or "Warden" training.
The number of fire marshals depends on your specific Fire Risk Assessment. Factors include:
The size of the premises: Every area or floor must be covered.
The risk level: High-risk environments (like kitchens or warehouses) require more marshals.
Occupancy: You must have enough marshals to account for shift patterns, holidays, and sick leave.
Our on-site training accommodates up to 12 individuals, so you can fill all available spots for no extra cost. The more fire marshals or wardens present on your premises, the safer your workplace will be.
While there is no fixed legal expiry date, the industry standard recommendation is to refresh training every 3 years. However, if your workplace risks change or if a marshal's duties evolve, more frequent "top-up" training or annual refreshers are advised to maintain competency.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, fire safety training is a legal requirement for all UK business sectors. Whether you operate in a high-risk environment like a construction site or a low-risk office, you must appoint competent persons to manage fire risks. We provide specialist fire marshal and fire warden training tailored to:
Education: Busy schools, colleges, and universities.
Healthcare: Complex hospitals, GP surgeries, and care homes.
Industrial: High-risk warehouses, manufacturing plants, and construction sites.
Commercial: Offices, retail outlets, and shopping centres.
Hospitality: Hotels, restaurants, and bars.
Public Sector: Churches, community hubs, and government buildings.
No matter your industry, our experts ensure your team is compliant with the specific fire safety challenges of your workplace.
