What is Fire Extinguisher Training?
Ensure legal compliance with our hands-on fire extinguisher training, delivered directly at your premises. Led by ex-firefighters and fire safety experts, our face-to-face course provides the practical skills and confidence your team needs to handle real fire emergencies effectively.
Every session includes a live fire extinguisher practical, giving your staff real-world experience using actual equipment. It is the most engaging way to meet your obligations under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 while prioritizing workplace safety.
Staff trained in fire safety act as the bridge between your business and the emergency services.
Training is up to date for 2026 and focuses on three core areas:
Prevention
Identifying potential fire hazards and ensuring daily fire safety compliance.
Evacuation
Leading safe, orderly exits and conducting accurate roll calls at assembly points.
Action
Liaising with emergency services and using fire extinguishers to tackle small fires.
Our 3-hour session is split into two core modules: Theory and Practical.
Module 1: Fire Theory & Prevention
The Triangle of Fire: Understanding combustion and how to break the chain.
Classes of Fire: Identifying Class A (solids), B (liquids), C (gases), D (metals), F (fats), and Electrical fires.
Fire Hazards: Spotting risks specific to your workplace.
Human Behaviour: How people react in emergencies and how to lead a safe evacuation.
The Law: Your duties under the RRFSO 2005 and the role of the "Responsible Person."
Module 2: The Live Practical (Hands-On Experience)
The PASS Technique: Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep. The universal method for safe usage.
Extinguisher Identification: Matching the correct equipment (Water, CO2, Foam, or Powder) to the fire.
Dynamic Risk Assessment (DRA): Learning when it is safe to fight a fire and, more importantly, when to evacuate.
Live Fire Practice: Every delegate gets hands-on experience using real extinguishers on a controlled, safe fire using a gas-training rig.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires employers to provide adequate fire safety training. If your workplace contains fire extinguishers, you have a legal duty to ensure that a sufficient number of "competent persons" know how to use them safely. Our in-person training is a great way to meet this requirement.
Our standard onsite fire extinguisher training is optimised for groups of up to 12 people. We can accommodate up to 15 per session with some extra cost.
We can also run back-to-back sessions across one or multiple days. This ensures every attendee gets dedicated time with the instructor and hands-on practice with the equipment. For larger teams, we offer discounted multiple-session rates.
The PASS method is an acronym used to train people on the proper use of an extinguisher:
Pull the pin.
Aim at the base of the fire.
Squeeze the lever.
Sweep from side to side.
Yes. Every delegate who completes our face-to-face training receives an IFE-accredited and CPD-certified certificate, valid for 3 years. This serves as vital evidence for fire authorities and insurance providers.
