Fire Extinguisher Course

The face to face fire extinguisher training course covers everything you need to know about fire extinguishers and how to extinguish a fire safely.  It also covers other aspects of the mandatory fire safety training required to meet The Regulatory Reform (fire safety) order 2005.

The course has been designed to give all of your staff vital fire safety knowledge.  Our trainers are ex-emergency services personnel and therefore they are able to bring the course to life with real-world examples.  Your staff also get the unique practical experience of putting out a fire with a fire extinguisher.

Course Content

By the end of the session, learners will be able to:

  • State the cost of fires in the workplace to businesses and individuals
  • State the common causes of workplace fires
  • List the duties and responsibilities of employees in relation to fire safety
  • List the duties and responsibilities of others in the event of a fire
  • State the actions to be taken in the event of a fire
  • List the methods available to raise the alarm in the event of a fire
  • State how to contact the emergency services
  • State the key elements for effective fire risk management in the workplace
  • List the components of the fire triangle
  • List the active and passive fire control measures
  • State the methods to prevent fire including fire prevention awareness
  • Define the role and the state the duties of the “responsible person” under the RRFSO 2005
  • Define the term "competent person" under the RRFSO 2005
  • State the role and the powers of the enforcing authorities
  • State the powers of the courts for breaches of the RRFSO 2005

  • The cost to businesses and individuals
  • Causes of workplace fires
  • Duties and responsibilities of employees in relation to fire safety at work
  • Duties and responsibilities of others in the event an emergency e.g. fire marshals, fire service etc
  • The actions to be taken in the event of a fire
  • Methods of raising the alarm
  • How to contact the emergency services
  • The role and duties of the responsible person
  • Define the term competent person
  • The types of enforcement authorities
  • The powers of enforcement authorities
  • The powers of the courts for breaches of the RRFSO 2005
  • Common human behaviours in the event of fire
  • Methods which cause heat to be transmitted during a fire (direct contact, conduction, convection, radiation, flashover and backdraught).

By the end of the session, learners will be able to:

  • State the safety precautions needed to be undertaken before using fire-fighting equipment
  • State the requirements needed to correctly service check fire-fighting equipment
  • Outline the common human behaviours in fire situations where training has not been undertaken
  • List the names of methods which cause heat to be transmitted during a fire
  • Define the role and responsibilities of a fire marshal
  • State the content of an emergency plan in the workplace
  • Demonstrate competent fire extinguishment
  • DRA (Dynamic risk assessment)

Lesson content:

  • The safety precautions of using fire-fighting equipment
  • Fire-fighting equipment service checks
  • Types of fire extinguishers and their uses
